Zara Vaux, lighting designer, asked me to design a central hanging light inspired by the Magnolia tree…

The clients had a passion for gardening and were building their new home in the heart of Suffolk.

A tall atrium space above the kitchen island, with a gallery on the first floor.

Each pendant or flower is unique, and capture the different stages of a flower opening.

This design fed from my Chalk series, with hand carved curved wood, sanded to delicate feathered edges, each individual petal is unique.

A number of layers of gesso, which is sanded back, leaving traces of the wood beneath and adding colour and interest, then a soft beeswax finish.

Bespoke brass fittings each one made for its petal and positioned into shape.
